Garden Dedication Party
The Storybook Theatre of Hawaii and the town of Hanapepe are gearing up for their ‘Garden Dedication Party’ that will be celebrated on August 8th in Hanapepe from noon ‘til 9 p.m. The date dedicates The Spark M. Matsunaga International Children’s Garden for Peace, which has become an oasis in the center of Hanapepe town. The garden will be a one-of-a-kind visitor destination, performance art venue, and outdoor peace education classroom. The dedication event is FREE and will be a spectacular affair with lots of food, great entertainment, arts and crafts booths, and activities for the whole family.
Musical groups appearing in Hanapepe Town Park on Kauai County's magnificent new portable stage and in the Peace Garden will include Walter Keale, Espiritu Libre, The Blond Boys, Love Tribe, Millicent Cummings, Sea Dreams, and Michael Barretto. Carey and Wendy Valentine will perform with music for a costumed (costumes available at the event or bring your own) Children's Parade. The Storybook Theatre Gift Shop will be open. Other activities include a Silent Auction, Lucky Draw tickets, Keiki Booth, and a Plant Sale. Kona Road will be closed, with music, food, activities, craft and commercial vendors located in Hanapepe Town Park.
Special guests from ‘Club 100’, veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion who served with Lt. Spark Matsunaga, in WWII, will be coming from near and far to celebrate the dedication of the garden which is home to the only statue in the world of the late hero senator. These brave men will share their stories of ‘Sparky’, the man from Hanapepe who was a great visionary and worked diligently for world peace.
Other Kauai non-profit organizations will be present to lend their support to the Garden Dedication and let folks know more about who they are and what they do.
As well as the silent auction, there will be lucky number drawings, and a ‘ride by’ from cyclers in Malama Pono’s 'Paradise Ride Kauai'.
Booth space is being offered for fellow non-profit organizations at no cost. Commercial vendors and artisan / crafters may call Storybook Theatre to reserve a booth for a nominal fee and/or an 'in kind' donation. Any volunteer help with the set-up, running, and closing of the event, will be warmly received and is a great opportunity to get involved in the community.
Silent Auction and Plant Sale donations are now being accepted. Call or e mail Storybook for drop off instructions.
